MAN, SON partner to boost measurement standards
The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria has pledged continued collaboration with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria to ensure accurate calibration and standardisation for consumer value.
MAN’s director-general, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, stated this during the 2025 World Metrology Day celebration held in Lagos on Tuesday.
Mr Ajayi-Kadir said accurate measurement was more than a technical task. According to him, the measurement is a vital foundation for all human activities. In manufacturing, he noted, measurement is essential for quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and product reliability.
Mr Ajayi-Kadir added that measurement supports global competitiveness and reinforces consumer trust in Nigerian-made goods.
“Manufacturers now depend heavily on accurate measurement to reduce waste, meet customer demands, and safeguard the environment,” he said.
He stressed that standardisation plays a key role in building consumer confidence and aligning with international benchmarks.
Mr Ajayi-Kadir praised SON’s dedication to advancing metrology in Nigeria and improving national quality systems. He said SON’s efforts were crucial in boosting industrial growth and global integration.
MAN, he noted, remains committed to partnering with SON to promote precision, standardisation, and continuous improvement in manufacturing.
Speaking at the event, SON’s director-general, Ifeanyi Okeke, urged manufacturers to avoid unqualified calibration providers. He said SON was working with relevant bodies to eliminate such operators and uphold trusted calibration services.
Mr Okeke disclosed that SON was tackling challenges confronting small businesses through training and awareness campaigns. He added that enforcing standards would improve product quality and enhance competitiveness nationwide.
“To support manufacturers, SON has decentralised calibration services to Lagos, Kano, Abuja, and Port Harcourt,” Mr Okeke said.
He explained that this initiative offers easier access for businesses across various regions. He further confirmed the launch of Mobile Calibration Services, also called Grassroots Calibration Services.
According to him, this service brings calibration directly to small and remote businesses, helping to boost economic growth.
Mr Okeke noted SON’s role as Nigeria’s apex body for standards and metrology enforcement.
