A 23-year-old man, Emmanuel Kayode, on Wednesday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly possessing stolen cable wires and tools.

The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of possession of cable wires and tools.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him

The Prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 23, at about 1:00 p.m in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant had in his possession cable wires used in a building with screwdrivers and pliers, tools suspected to have been stolen.

Mr Apata said that the offence contravened Section 345 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

Counsel to the defendant, Femi Olarewaju, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Taiwo Ajibade, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20, 000 with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case until July 25, for hearing.
