The police in Oyo State on Tuesday arraigned two women, Sekinat Olayiwola and Zainab Adesina, before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly defrauding a rice trader of N2.06 million.

Olayiwola, 37, and Adesina, 30, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Akeem Akinloye, told the court that the defendants allegedly conspired to defraud the complainant, Rukayat Adeboye, on May 30 at about 6.58 a.m., in the Sawmill area of Ibadan.

According to him, the defendants fraudulently obtained the sum of N2,060,000 from the complainant under the pretext of supplying her 40 bags of rice but failed to do so.

Mr Akinloye alleged that the money was transferred into a Moniepoint account (number 5043533741) belonging to Olayiwola.

He said the defendants converted the money to their personal use.

The prosecutor stated that the offences contravened Sections 390(9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The defence counsel, Mr Abdulfatai Ogundeji, urged the court to grant the defendants bail on liberal terms.

The Chief Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, admitted each defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties each in like sum.

Mrs Ogunkanmi ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendants and adjourned the case until November 27 for hearing.
