The Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency, in collaboration with the Madori LGA, distributed relief items to 500 flood victims in the area.

The information officer in charge of the council, Musa Muhammad, confirmed this in a statement in Dutse on Thursday.

A downpour that lasted several hours between Saturday night and Sunday morning destroyed more than 70 houses and damaged many others.

Parts of the area were also flooded, namely Shagari Quarters, Tonikutara, Gandun Sarki, and Gandun Bundugoma.

Mr Muhammad stated that the relief items were distributed to affected households to alleviate their immediate hardship.

The chairman of the council, Salisu Sani, said the items were intended to ease the suffering of the victims and listed the items distributed as 10kg bags of rice, semovita, millet, and wheat, along with N5,000 cash to each victim for transportation of the items home.

According to him, the chairman urged the beneficiaries to utilise the items effectively.

SEMA’s executive secretary, Hannafi Yakubu, who sympathised with the victims on behalf of the governor, assured them of his administration’s continued support for them.

Mr Yakubu pledged to secure additional relief items from the National Emergency Management Agency.

In their separate remarks, the district heads of Malam Madori and Waje, Muhammad Saleh and Ilyasu Ibrahim, commended the government’s timely assistance to the victims.
