NSCDC intercepts vehicle loaded with vandalised railway slippers in Bauchi

The Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intercepted a Peugeot J5 vehicle loaded with vandalised railway slippers.
The command also arrested two suspects for allegedly vandalising a transformer.
The command’s spokesman, ASC Saminu Yusuf, confirmed the developments to journalists on Saturday in Bauchi.
He said the vandals were intercepted following intelligence reports from concerned road users about the suspects operating in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area.
“Our personnel swiftly mobilised and, at about 6:00 p.m. on August 24, 2025, intercepted a white Peugeot J5 bus with registration number KMC 23 XQ.
“However, the culprits abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene before operatives arrived.”
The spokesman said the items recovered include 85 pieces of railway slippers, 15 bags of sawdust, and the Peugeot J5 bus.
“Documents discovered inside the vehicle are currently being reviewed to trace its ownership and identify the suspects involved,” Mr Yusuf said.
The spokesman said the two suspects who vandalised a transformer and stole amour cable in Bauchi town were apprehended in Azare town.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects vandalised the transformer while the other conspired to purchase the stolen cables for resale.
“Recovered exhibits included the vandalised cables, with both suspects confessing to the crime.
According to Mr Yusuf, the state commandant, Oloyede Oyerinde, commended his personnel for their swift action and dedication to safeguarding public infrastructure.
He reiterated the corps’ commitment to eradicating vandalism and other forms of criminal activity in the state.
