Ogun man arrested for stealing church bells

A 22-year-old man, Dayo Shonekan, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, for allegedly stealing church bells.
Ms Shonekan, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on charges bordering on stealing.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 15, at the Celestial Church of Christ in Opeloyeru Senukoro, Ota.
Mr Adaraloye alleged that the defendant entered into the church and stole three bells valued at N150,000, belonging to the church.
He alleged that the defendant, however, ran out of luck, as he was caught by the church members and handed over to the police.
The magistrate, O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Ms Fadairo ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun government.
The court adjourned the case until December 9 for a hearing.
