No new registrations in 2025 Super Cup, says coach Adamu

Jonah Adamu, head coach of the Nigeria Customs Service men’s volleyball team, has said there were no new player registrations for the ongoing 2025 Super Cup, describing the tournament as a continuation of the league season.
Mr Adamu said in an interview in Abuja that the competition rules did not allow the registration of new players mid-season.
According to him, recently recruited players are being groomed for the next league season.
“The competition is a continuous league running into 2025, and it does not permit the registration of new players mid-season. The new players we brought in are being prepared for the next league,” he said.
Mr Adamu added, “In spite of the team’s convincing 3–0 victory over Life Camp Volleyball Club in their opening match, the players will remain focused, noting that it was only the first game of the competition. This is just our first game, and anything can happen. We will take each point as it comes.”
The NCS team recorded the straight-sets victory with scores of 25–21, 25–18 and 25–23 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Monday.
Mr Adamu thanked God for the victory and the continued support of the comptroller-general of customs and the sports secretary-general, saying that excellence was always expected of the team.
“Nothing is expected of us but the best, and I believe we are one of the best teams in the country, if not the best,” he said.
Mr Adamu said the team’s next match would be against the Defence Spikers Volleyball Club on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m., expressing optimism about securing another positive result.
“We are hopeful for nothing but the best, and we are going in with the mindset to win,” he added.
The 2025 Nigeria Volleyball Federation Super Cup began on Monday, February 2, and will end on February 8.
The tournament is taking place at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, with 12 clubs competing in the men’s and women’s categories.
