The Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre have strengthened their partnership to enhance troops’ welfare and promote effective post-service empowerment for personnel.

Army chief Waidi Shaibu stated this during a meeting with the commandant of NAFRC, Nnaemeka Ilo, at the Army Headquarters, Abuja, according to a statement.

Mr Shaibu said the partnership was aimed at strengthening structured resettlement programmes that would equip officers and soldiers with vocational, technical and professional skills necessary for economic self-reliance after retirement.

According to him, the army remains committed to eliminating operational bottlenecks that hinder effective skills acquisition, stressing that welfare support must extend beyond active service to guarantee long-term stability and productivity for personnel.

The army chief commended NAFRC’s diverse skills acquisition initiatives, describing them as critical to ensuring a smooth and dignified transition from military to civilian life.

He also restated the need for structured post-training placement mechanisms, noting that many trained personnel possess valuable skills that could be effectively deployed in civilian organisations and the private sector.

Mr Shaibu urged the centre to deepen partnerships, strengthen data-driven management systems and adopt human-resource-based placement strategies to support seamless reintegration and sustainable employment outcomes.

Mr Ilo expressed appreciation for the sustained support of the army, noting that a significant number of Army personnel currently constitute a large proportion of the Armed Forces contingents undergoing training at the centre.

He assured the army chief of the centre’s commitment to faithfully implementing all directives aimed at improving personnel welfare, skills development and resettlement outcomes.
