The police in Oyo State on Thursday dragged six men before an Igboora Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, over  alleged land grabbing.

The five defendants are Azeez Okanlawon, 70; Azeez Ogunleti, 61; Olatunde Wasiu, 40; Soliu Muibi, 41; Babatunde Nuru, 34; and Olatunde Gafari, 43.

They are standing trial on a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, land grabbing and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

They, each, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Inspector Friday Sule, told the court that the defendants committed the offences sometime in July 2025, at Igbole village in Igboora.

He alleged that the defendants grabbed 150 acres of land belonging to a complainant, Joshua Ojo.

He alleged that the defendants also threatened the life of the complainant, and caused him unrest.

The prosecution also alleged that the defendants intentionally disobeyed the order of the court, restraining them from claiming ownership of the land.

According to the prosecution, the offences contravene the provisions of sections 7 of the Real Property Law of Oyo State, 2016 as well as the provisions of sections 249(d) and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Fasasi Ajibade, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each and two sureties each in like sum.

She adjourned the case until February 25, for hearing.
