Troops of the 144 Battalion (Rear), operating under Operation Eastern Sanity of the Nigerian Army, have arrested three suspected criminals with a stolen Mack truck.

In a statement on Thursday, the spokesperson for the 14 Brigade of the army, Mazinho Attah, said troops arrested the suspects during a night patrol in the Akpaa area on Wednesday.

Mr Attah said the suspects include Darlington Ubochi, 25, from Ugwunagbo Local Government Area; 33-year-old Chinedu Abara and 29-year-old Julius Chinemem Godwin, both from Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia.

He said the army acted on credible intelligence on suspected criminal activities in the area and subsequently mobilised troops to the scene.

“The suspects were apprehended in possession of a Mack truck with registration number T 4477 LA, which was reportedly stolen on 8 February 2026 from Port Harcourt Road, Aba, and later parked at Opobo Junction.

“A preliminary investigation confirms that the vehicle had been declared stolen prior to its recovery. Efforts are ongoing to move the recovered truck to 144 Battalion Forward Operating Base, Osisioma, while the suspects remain in military custody pending further investigation and subsequent handover to appropriate authorities,” Mr Attah said.

Mr Attah said the successful operation underscores the brigade’s sustained commitment to the security of lives and property within its area of responsibility.

He promised to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
