Nigeria has hailed the Bangladeshi government’s appointment of Khalilur Rahman as a foreign affairs minister.

Specifically, Nigeria’s foreign affairs minister, Yusuf Tuggar, made the commendation in a statement.

Mr Tuggar said that the “cordial and brotherly” relationship between Nigeria and Bangladesh would be fostered through mutual respect and cooperation.

“We are confident that under Rahman’s leadership, this bond of friendship and cooperation would be expanded. We hope to sustain a common commitment to international peace, sustainable development and the reform of global governance structures.

“Nigeria’s foreign affairs ministry will be working closely with Rahman in enhancing bilateral engagements in trade, investment, technology and capacity building,” the statement said.

The minister, in the statement, expressed optimism that Mr Rahman’s tenure would usher in a new era of robust partnership between Nigeria and Bangladesh.

“We wish Rahman success in his new and significant role,” the statement added.

Mr Rahman, a career diplomat, previously served as national security adviser in the interim government of Muhammed Yunus.
