Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Monday condemned Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory, warning that any attempt to use the country as a platform for proxy conflicts would expose Lebanon to renewed risks, the country’s National News Agency reported.

In a statement, Mr Aoun said rockets launched from Lebanese territory at dawn undermined the Lebanese government’s efforts to keep the country away from dangerous military confrontations unfolding in the region.

He stressed that Lebanon has consistently called for restraint and for addressing regional developments with a sense of national responsibility that places the country’s interest above all else.

Israeli warplanes carried out intensive airstrikes at dawn on Monday in Beirut’s southern suburbs, hours after Hezbollah’s rockets were fired from Lebanese territory toward Israel.
