Robert Mueller, ex-FBI director who investigated Russia-Trump campaign ties, dies

“With deep sadness, we are sharing the news that Bob passed away” on Friday night, his family said in a statement Saturday.

Robert S. Mueller, the former U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director, who investigated Russian interference in the 2016 election linked to Donald Trump’s campaign, has died.

He was 81.

“With deep sadness, we are sharing the news that Bob passed away” on Friday night, his family said in a statement Saturday.

The statement added, “His family asks that their privacy be respected.”

Mr Mueller was appointed in 2017 by then Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to oversee the federal investigation into Russian interference in the U.S. 2016 election won by Mr Trump.
