The Ogun sector command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed personnel across major highways for the 2026 Easter Special Patrol Operations.

This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abeokuta.

Sector commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, said the operation began on Wednesday and will end on April 8, following directives from the FRSC National Headquarters.

Mr Fasakin said regular personnel and special marshals were strategically positioned along major corridors to ensure safe and smooth movement during the Easter period.

He explained that the initiative aligned with the directive of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, amid expected increases in vehicular and human traffic during the Easter celebrations.

“The deployment is aimed at ensuring safe, smooth and hitch-free movement for motorists during the Easter celebration.

“This operation follows the Corps Marshal’s directive as we anticipate a surge in vehicular and human traffic during the Easter period,” he said.

He said enforcement would target offences such as speeding, dangerous overtaking, overloading, and mixed loading.

“Other offences include lane indiscipline, mobile phone use while driving, mechanical faults, tyre violations, and non-compliance with seat belt and child restraint regulations,” he said.

Mr Fasakin disclosed that the command had activated 24-hour patrol, rescue, and traffic management services across the state.

He added that patrol vehicles, ambulances, and tow trucks would support operations to ensure rapid emergency response.

The sector commander directed the acting unit commander in Ota, Chief Route Commander Wasiu Ogunmefun, to implement traffic realignment at the Old Toll Gate.

He said the intervention would involve closing illegal U-turns and access points by realigning damaged road kerbs along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

Mr Fasakin added that vehicular traffic counts would be conducted to generate data supporting future transport policies and research.

He urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and to avoid distracted driving during the festive period.

“It is only the living who celebrate,” Mr Fasakin said, urging motorists to obey traffic rules and drive responsibly.

He also wished residents a peaceful and safe Easter celebration.
