Iran War: House democrats rebuke Trump, call for immediate vote against ‘whole civilisation will die’ threat

The U.S. house democratic leadership has rebuked President Donald Trump and urged lawmakers to immediately return to Washington to vote against the president’s decision to wipe out the entire civilisation in Iran ahead of a looming 8 p.m. deadline on Tuesday for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
“Donald Trump is completely unhinged,” a statement signed by key house democrats on Tuesday said. “The House must come back into session immediately and vote to end this reckless war of choice in the Middle East before Donald Trump plunges our country into World War III.”
The opposition blamed republicans for enabling and excusing Mr Trump’s “deeply dangerous and extreme behaviour” for years, stating democrats would no longer tolerate such conduct.
“Enough is enough,” the statement stressed.
Democrats asserted the war in Iran was costing Americans dearly, citing the deaths of more than 10 military personnel and a sharp increase in fuel prices.
The statement was signed by House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark, Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Ted Lieu, Assistant Democratic Leader Joe Neguse and DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene.
The democrats urged republicans to set aside party loyalty and join them “in stopping this madness.”
Early Tuesday morning, U.S. forces carried out a series of attacks at Kharg Island, a major oil export hub in Iran, in an effort to weaken the nation’s energy infrastructure.
Trump intensified his threats on Tuesday, warning of catastrophic consequences if Tehran continues to keep the strategic waterway closed.
