Electrician bags 14-month prison sentence for theft
The Jos Magistrate’s Court has sentenced an 18 -year-old electrician, Ibrahim Sani, to 14 months in prison for trespass and theft.
The convict pleaded guilty to the charge of trespass and theft brought against him by the police.
The magistrate, Hannatu Ashom, sentenced the convict to three months in prison with an option of a N5,000 fine for trespass, or one year in prison for theft.
Ms Ashom also ordered him to pay N45,000 in compensation or spend two months in prison in default.
She said the sentence would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal acts.
While reviewing the facts, the prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the complainant, Afolomah Marcelina, reported the case on January 31 at the ‘C’ Division Police station.
Mr Gokwat said the convict trespassed into the complainant’s house and stole a phone, a power bank, and withdrew N15,000 from the complainant’s account using his phone.
He said the offences contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
