Man, 37, in court over alleged theft of mobile phones

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

A man, Sunday Moses, 37, on Wednesday, appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of cell phones.

Moses, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Ifelodun Street, Abekoko Area in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant stole one Redmi cell phone worth N202, 000 belonging to Blessing Taiwo and one Tecno cell phone valued at N200,000 belonging to Odunayo Falaju.

Adeniyi said that the offences contravened Section 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The counsel to the defendant, Joy Egbuson, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Magistrate, Olubunmi Bamidele, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case till July 2 for hearing.
