The Professional Insurance Ladies Association (PILA) has inaugurated the Acting Managing Director of International Energy Insurance (IEI) Plc, Dr Joyce Odiachi, as its 16th President.

The investiture, held on Friday in Lagos with the theme, “Roots and Wings: Empowering Women, Transforming Lives,” brought together industry leaders and stakeholders in the Nigerian insurance and financial services sector.

In her acceptance speech, Ms Odiachi pledged to increase female representation in leadership positions by nurturing visible, credible and impactful women leaders.

She said the association would move from participation to influence by intentionally preparing women to occupy decision-making spaces across the industry.

Ms Odiachi outlined the five strategic priorities for her administration to include professional development and capacity building through mentorship, leadership training and structured programmes aimed at strengthening members’ skills and career advancement.

She said the focus would also include financial literacy and economic empowerment to enhance women’s independence, investment knowledge and entrepreneurial capacity.

According to her, true empowerment extends beyond representation to equipping women with the power of choice and economic stability.

Ms Odiachi added that her administration would strengthen PILA’s internal structures, deepen member engagement and promote holistic well-being to ensure sustainability and active participation.

She also pledged to expand strategic partnerships within the insurance and financial services sectors, aimed at creating more opportunities for women in the industry.

In addition, she said the association would intensify community impact and social responsibility initiatives to contribute to national development.

The Commissioner for Insurance, National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Olusegun Omosehin, commended PILA for promoting female leadership, professionalism and financial inclusion in the insurance sector.

Mr Omosehin, represented by the Deputy Director of Inspectorate, NAICOM, Oluwatoyin Bello, congratulated Ms Odiachi on her inauguration, saying it’s a reflection of her professionalism and contributions to the industry.

He noted that empowering women as professionals and consumers would strengthen financial security and risk protection while supporting economic stability.

The outgoing PILA President, Bimbo Onakomaya, urged members to build wealth, lead boldly and sustain excellence.

According to her, success should inspire others and reflect purpose alongside prosperity.

Chairman of the occasion and Group Chairman of NEM Insurance, Tope Smart, called for greater investment in mentoring young professionals and expanding opportunities for women in leadership roles.

He said the insurance industry must become more innovative, inclusive and responsive to societal needs while sustaining ethical conduct and professionalism.

In her keynote address, commercial and strategic planning expert, Dr Omotola Bamigbaiye, encouraged women to embrace mentorship, continuous learning and intentional leadership to create lasting impact.

She said women’s achievements should be seen as a collective story capable of inspiring future generations and transforming communities.
