Fubara hails army’s operations against oil bunkering, pipeline vandalism

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers has commended the Nigerian Army for its efforts in tackling pipeline vandalism and illegal oil bunkering, saying the operations are producing positive results.
Mr Fubara made the remark while receiving the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, who paid him a courtesy visit in Port Harcourt on Friday.
Mr Shaibu was accompanied by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Emmanuel Emekah, and other senior officers on the visit.
Mr Fubara said the military’s sustained operations against crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism had contributed to increased crude oil production and improved national revenue.
According to him, the activities of the 6 Division have also enhanced the security of lives and property in Rivers.
The governor congratulated Mr Shaibu on his appointment, expressing satisfaction with the improvements recorded in the security sector since he assumed office.
“I can conveniently say that within the short period you have been appointed, there are a lot of positive things that our state has recorded in terms of security.
“I wish that your tenure would record more positive improvements for the Nigerian Army,” he said.
Mr Fubara also expressed appreciation to the army for choosing Rivers to host the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration, describing the decision as a reflection of the state’s peaceful atmosphere.
“This speaks to two things: that Rivers State is peaceful and Rivers State is worth securing,” he said.
The governor pledged continued support to the Nigerian Army, assuring that his administration would sustain collaboration with the military to enable personnel operating in the state to carry out their responsibilities effectively.
“We owe you our support, and we will continue to do whatever is necessary to ensure you succeed in your assignment,” he said.
Mr Shaibu thanked the state government for its continued support of the 6 Division, particularly the provision of infrastructure and facilities for the anniversary celebration.
The COAS said the weeklong programme would feature activities aimed at strengthening civil-military relations and positively impacting host communities.
