Orphanage managers urge sustained support for vulnerable children

Managers of two orphanage homes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have urged Nigerians to sustain support for vulnerable children through donations, volunteer services and other humanitarian interventions.
The appeal was made on Friday during a humanitarian outreach by the Royal Impressive Club to Mother Theresa’s Children’s Home in Gwarinpa and City of Refuge in Durumi, where food items were donated.
The matron of the City of Refuge, Victoria Edwin, commended the club for the gesture, describing it as a source of hope and encouragement for the children under their care.
“It is not easy these days for people to give, not even a bottle of water, but you have shown us love by coming here with these gifts.
“We may not have anything to give in return, but we pray that God will richly bless all of you,” she said.
Also speaking, the managing director of Mother Theresa’s Children’s Home, Catherine Emeagwali, said caring for vulnerable children came with challenges but remained a fulfilling responsibility.
“It is a journey; it is a roller coaster, but we are thankful every day that we can play our part in the community.
“No matter how small or how big the support is, we appreciate everyone who chooses to show love to the children,” she said.
Ms Emeagwali called on individuals, organisations and volunteers to support orphanage homes through donations, mentorship and other forms of assistance to improve the welfare of vulnerable children.
“If you have the opportunity, come and see the home and support us, whether through donations or volunteer services. We really appreciate it,” she said.
Earlier, the president of the Royal Impressive Club, Benjamin Ogbeide, said the outreach reflected the club’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and complementing the government’s efforts through humanitarian service.
According to him, the club regularly visits hospitals and orphanage homes to assist people in need and plans to organise a medical outreach later in the year.
Mr Ogbeide said the planned outreach would provide free healthcare services to about 500 vulnerable persons, while noting that the club had earlier donated cash and food items to indigent patients at the National Hospital, Abuja.
