Niger pledges people-centred information management

The Niger Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transparent, responsible and people-centred communication.
This is contained in a statement by the Director of Information Services, Niger State Ministry of Information and Orientation, Yunusa Ibrahim, on Thursday in Minna.
The state government stated this as it joined public relations practitioners across Nigeria and the world to commemorate World Public Relations Day 2026.
Mr Ibrahim said the annual celebration, observed every July 16, recognises the vital role of strategic communication in promoting trust, understanding and sustainable development.
According to him, this year’s theme, “The Golden Age of Strategic Public Relations,”reflects the growing importance of public relations as a strategic tool for shaping public perception.
“It is also a tool for strengthening institutional credibility and advancing meaningful engagement between government and citizens.
“The theme aligns with the ministry’s commitment to purposeful communication that supports good governance and sustainable development,” the director noted.
He explained that public relations goes beyond publicity, describing it as a strategic instrument for building mutual understanding between government and the people, fostering transparency, managing reputation and encouraging informed public participation in governance.
In a similar vein, the director quoted the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Obed Nana, as commending public relations practitioners, information officers and media professionals for their dedication to ethical communication and responsible information management in service to the people of Niger.
He said the commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor Umaru Bago-led administration to open, transparent and people-centred communication in line with the New Niger Agenda.
The director stressed that timely and accurate information remained essential for strengthening public trust and advancing development.
Mr Ibrahim said the ministry called on communication professionals to continue to uphold the principles of truth, professionalism, integrity and accountability while leveraging modern communication tools to combat misinformation and promote social cohesion.
He added that as the world celebrates World Public Relations Day 2026, the ministry urged Niger residents to embrace constructive engagement and responsible information sharing as collective efforts toward building a more informed, united and prosperous Niger State.
