U.S. judge clears way for Trump to end deportation protection for over 1,000 Somalis

A federal judge has backed U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration to end legal protection against deportation for nearly 1,100 Somalis.
U.S. District Judge, Allison Burroughs’s verdict allows the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to end the Temporary Protected Status designation that allows Somalis live and work in the U.S.
The verdict came over two months after U.S. Supreme Court backed the administration to end TPS for thousands of immigrants from Haiti and Syria.
It also trails Mr Trump’s administration crackdown on immigration, characterised by denaturalisation, visa revocation and push against birth tourism.
In January, Mr Trump administration announced plans to terminate Somalia’s TPS designation.
The then-Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem, argued that conditions in their country had improved and allowing them to continue living and working in the U.S. was against America’s interest.
