A Canada-based Nigerian tech recruiter, Ebunoluwa Tomiwa, has been arrested and charged by the country’s authorities over alleged human trafficking and sexual offences.

The Hamilton Police Service announced that Mr Tomiwa, who also goes by the nickname Boon, was apprehended after he voluntarily turning himself in hours after he was declared wanted.

“Hamilton Police have arrested Ebunoluwa Tomiwa after he turned himself into Police earlier this morning. Tomiwa will be appearing in court for a bail hearing,” the police said in a statement. 

The police noted that the 33-year-old, who claims to be a tech recruiter at TEKsystems on his LinkedIn profile, was subsequently charged with human trafficking, procurement of sexual services and withholding documents.

“Ebunoluwa Tomiwa, 33 years old, of Belleville was arrested for the following charges; Trafficking in Persons, Procuring for Sexual Services, Material Benefit – Trafficking of Persons and Withholding Documents,” Hamilton police noted. 

The police said investigators said the suspect might have harmed other victims, urging anyone affected to contact the authorities.

“Investigators believe there may be additional victims and encourage anyone who may have information, or who believes they may have been victimized, to come forward and speak with investigators,” the police added. 

Recall that the Peoples Gazette reported earlier this month that a Nigerian man Olusegun Onidare was charged over alleged sexual assault of two women in separate incidents in the municipality of Brampton, Ontario.

In May, Nigerian national Samuel Adewale, and six other co-conspirators appeared before a court in Toronto after they were nabbed by Canadian authorities for allegedly running an elaborate pay-to-pass driving test centre.
