Canada‘s NBA star Dillon Brooks charged with driving under marijuana influence

Canada’s National Basketball Association star Dillon Brooks is scheduled to appear in an Arizona court on October 28 after being charged with driving under the influence of marijuana.
The decision of the prosecutor to formally file charges against the Phoenix Suns forward came after he was initially arrested in Scottsdale around 1:00 a.m. on March 6 for being under the influence of a substance while driving.
ESPN reported that the case is believed to be related to marijuana use. Brooks was subsequently kept in the Scottsdale City Jail but released shortly on bail.
It was gathered that the player passed a breathalyser test after he was initially pulled over for alleged traffic violations but a police officer told him that his car smelled “like a marijuana dispensary.”
“This charge stems from the incident last March. We have addressed the matter with Dillon and have no further comment,” Suns senior spokesperson Stacey Mitch said.
Before the indictment, Brooks was already facing a separate misdemeanor charge stemming from a January incident involving reckless driving and speeding, with a trial readiness conference scheduled for November 9.
Brooks recently signed a three-year, $73 million contract extension through 2029-30 with the Suns after averaging a career-high 20.2 points last season.
