Kano governor reconciles Barau, Bichi ahead of 2027 elections
Governor Abba Yusuf has reconciled Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and House of Representatives member Abubakar Bichi ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Bature, on Wednesday, Mr Yusuf facilitated the reconciliation meeting, which lasted two hours, on Tuesday in Abuja.
The meeting gave the two prominent APC leaders a chance to address their differences and discuss the need to work together for the party’s collective interest.
Mr Barau represented Kano-North Senatorial District, while Bichi represented Bichi Federal Constituency, and chaired the House Committee on Appropriations.
The governor urged the two political leaders and their supporters to bury the hatchet.
According to Mr Yusuf, the APC’s success requires unity, mutual understanding, and collective commitment among its leaders and members.
He underscored the importance of working together to ensure the success of President Bola Tinubu and all APC candidates in the elections.
The governor urged party members to put the party’s overall interest above individual differences.
“Political disagreements are part of democratic engagement, but such differences should not be allowed to undermine the unity, stability and progress of the party,” Mr Yusuf said in the statement.
Mr Yusuf restated that the APC remained one family, adding that all stakeholders have a responsibility to resolve internal crises through dialogue, consultation and mutual respect. He urged supporters of the two leaders to embrace reconciliation and avoid inflammatory statements, character assassination, and actions that could divide the party.
The Kano governor said the reconciliation would help unite APC members and strengthen its efforts ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Henceforth, I do not expect any of your supporters to come out and abuse one another. We must stop these unnecessary distractions. The APC is set to win all elective positions in Kano come 2027 by God’s Grace,” Yusuf said.
Messrs Barau and Bichi warned their supporters against fueling internal conflicts within the party in Kano. They assured their continued support, loyalty, and commitment to the party’s success in the state poll.
