A cocoa farmer, Fasina Yusuf, has appeared before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo on an alleged N3.9 million fraud charge.

Mr Yusuf, whose address was not provided, faces one count of fraud.

The prosecutor, Opeyemi Lawal, who arraigned the defendant on Thursday, alleged he committed the offence between December 18, 2025, and January 9, 2026, in the Oke-Aregba Area, Abeokuta.

Mr Lawal alleged that the defendant collected N3.9 million from the complainant, Ogunyemi Idowu, to supply a truckload of cocoa but failed to do so.

He said the defendant converted the money to his personal use.

“All efforts made by the complainant to get the cocoa or a refund proved abortive,” the prosecutor said.

Mr Lawal said that the offences contravened sections 388(6) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The magistrate, O.T. Odubanjo, granted the defendant bail of N1 million with one surety in like sum.

Ms Odubanjo said that the surety must be a registered bondsman with the Ogun State Judiciary.

She ordered that Mr Yusuf be remanded at the Oba Correctional Centre pending the perfection of his bail conditions.

She adjourned the case until November 9 for hearing.
