Continent’s financial leaders to meet at 2026 Africa Compliance Forum

The African Export-Import Bank has announced speakers for its 2026 Compliance Forum, which will convene bankers, regulators and fintech leaders representing more than 40 countries to address regulatory cooperation and cross-border trade.
The bank announced this in a statement on Tuesday. The forum, held in partnership with the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre, is scheduled for November 16 to 18 at the Gaborone International Convention Centre in Botswana.
Confirmed speakers include Bank of Botswana governor Lesego Caster Moseki, African Union Commission representative Patrick Ndzana Olomo, Klearium Group’s CEO, Luis Koberg and Wave Mobile Money Group’s global head of risk and compliance, Sophie Barre. Also listed among the speakers are representatives of Elucidate, the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority, CBZ Holdings, NMB Bank Limited and Continental Reinsurance.
The forum, themed ‘Better Compliance—Better Trade’, will explore measures to address regulatory fragmentation, strengthen access to correspondent banking services, and use technology to improve compliance across African markets.
Afreximbank’s compliance director, Idrissa Diop, said African banks operated under different legal systems and supervisory approaches, making regulatory cooperation crucial to reducing trade barriers.
He said Africa needed interoperability that reduced friction while preserving national regulatory sovereignty.
Discussions at the forum will address anti-money laundering, terrorism financing, sanctions, cybersecurity, consumer protection and the use of artificial intelligence in compliance.
The event will feature an exhibition of artificial intelligence-enabled systems designed to strengthen anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing monitoring.
Afreximbank said the forum is expected to create a platform for stakeholders to develop practical strategies to improve compliance and promote the flow of capital, goods and services across African borders.
