Judicial Corruption: NJC warns judge over ex-AGF Malami bail ruling, places him on watch list

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has cautioned Justice Bello Kawu of the FCT High Court for granting interim bail to a former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, despite an existing remand order issued by another judge.
In a statement on Wednesday, the council explained that Mr Kawu granted Mr Malami interim bail despite a subsisting remand order issued by another judge of the same court.
The existing remand order was due to expire at midnight on December 24, 2025. However, Mr Kawu granted Mr Malami interim bail on December 23, 2025, in conflict with the earlier order.
The NJC’s investigation committee found that Mr Kawu was aware of the existing remand order when he granted the interim bail.
Following its consideration of the investigation report, the council accepted the committee’s findings and directed that a warning letter be issued to Mr Kawu. It also placed him on its Watch List for six months.
