COVID-19: Edo records five deaths, 58 infections in 72 hours
Head of Edo Coronavirus Case Management Centre, Ebomwonyi Osagie, says the state recorded five COVID-19 deaths and 58 new cases in the last 72 hours.
At a news conference on Monday in Benin, Mr Osagie said the deaths were of unvaccinated people. He added that 52 victims also got well and were discharged during the period in review.
“A total of 492 samples were collected; we have 274 people in home care and 287 discharged since the outbreak of the third wave of the virus.
“For now, we have a total of 1,270 confirmed cases, 616 active cases, 45 patients currently in our facilities with 65 deaths recorded since the outbreak of the third wave,” he said.
The permanent secretary in the state ministry of health, Osamwonyi Irowa, noted that some Edo residents had been attempting to buy certificates of vaccination cards through the backdoor without taking the vaccine.
He said they were doing so because of the government’s stance on no vaccination card, no access to government facilities and vowed the wrath of the law on buyers of the cards and insiders selling them.
