Judgement sacking Mark-led ADC leadership shocking: IPAC

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has described the judgement against the David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as shocking.
IPAC’s national publicity secretary, Martins Egbeola, on Friday in Abuja, expressed concern about the timing of the judgement, as political parties had begun campaigns.
The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, had, on Thursday, nullified the leadership of ADC and invalidated all decisions taken by the party under Mr Mark’s leadership.
“This judgment is quite shocking, particularly given that political parties are already in campaign mode, with presidential candidates across the country engaging Nigerians and presenting their manifestos and policy alternatives, ahead of the general elections,” Mr Egbeola said.
He, however, expressed optimism that the judgement would be overturned by the Court of Appeal, considering its far-reaching implications for ADC and Nigeria’s democratic process.
“We are, however, hopeful that the judgement will be overturned by the Court of Appeal, considering the far-reaching implications it could have for ADC, its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, his supporters and the broader democratic process if allowed to stand,” he said.
Mr Egbeola called for a speedy and definitive resolution of the persistent legal battles and leadership disputes within ADC to end the uncertainty.
“The persistent legal battles and leadership disputes within ADC must be brought to a speedy and definitive resolution,” he stated.
The IPAC national publicity secretary stressed that no political party should face prolonged uncertainty and unnecessary distractions, particularly with less than three months to the general elections.
“No political party should be subjected to such prolonged uncertainty and needless distractions, especially with less than three months to the general elections,” he said.
