National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in Borno have been commended for their resilience and commitment to the unity of Nigeria.

The Chairman of the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, Ali Bolori, made the commendation on Thursday in his address at the NYSC Management/Corps Employers workshop in Maiduguri.

Mr Bolori said the corps members deserve commendation for their show of commitment, resilience and loyalty as they carry on their duties diligently despite security challenges.

He lauded the scheme for organising the workshop to enhance the relationship between it and corps employers towards enhancing corps welfare and security among others.

While appreciating the role of NYSC in nation building, Mr Bolori urged participants in the workshop to take full advantage of the programme on how to be more effective and efficient.

He also lauded the Governor Babagana Zulum administration for its commitment in providing an enabling environment for the smooth operations of the NYSC, and the state NYSC coordinator for always rejigging the operations of the scheme in Borno.

In his speech presented at the occasion by the Assistant Director, Corps Inspection and Monitoring, Simon Adamu, the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim, said the programme was meant to serve as an avenue for exchange of ideas on improvement of NYSC operations.

“In fulfilment of its objectives, the NYSC is promoting national unity and accelerated socio-economic development of the nation as well as instilling in our youths a tradition of industry at work and of patriotic and loyal services to Nigeria amongst other activities.

“The achievement of these and other objectives can only be sustained through the collective efforts of all stakeholders, including the managers of Corps members,” Ibrahim said.

The director-general, who stressed the need to improve security and welfare of corps members, highlighted to corps employers what is expected of them for maximum results.
