Military announces takeover in Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso military officers led by Capt. Sidsoré Kader Ouedraogo have annouced a takeover from President Roch Kabore.
This comes few hours after Mr Kabore’s government denied report on coup in the country.
This was disclosed by the coup leader Mr Ouedraogo in a broadcast on state television on Monday evening. This followed an earlier arrest and detention of Mr Kabore.
Flanked by 13 military officers, Mr Ouedraogo said “A decision made with the sole purpose of allowing our country to get back on the right track.”Â
Burkina Faso’s constitution has been suspended, borders closed, government dissolved, while Mr Kabore and other politicians are in safe hands, Mr Ouedraogo claims.Â
Citing Reuters, Peoples Gazette had earlier reported that Mr Kabore was arrested and detained by mutinying soldiers.Â
Protesters had set the headquarters of the ruling party on fire over Mr Kabore’s failure to quell violence by Islamist militants connected to al-Qaeda, prompting the government to impose a curfew in the country.
