Lagos Island Clash: Police arrest NURTW leaders Kunle Poly, Tafa Sego

The Lagos Police Command on Monday arrested two suspects over their alleged involvement in the sporadic shooting and killings that happened in Idumota, Lagos.
According to the police, the suspects were arrested in connection with the clashes at “Idumota and its environs which has intermittently crippled commercial activities in the area.”
The suspects, identified as Kunle Poly and Tafa Sego, were arrested at a meeting where the two National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) members, along with other stakeholders converged on Monday.
The police said one person was killed during the shoot-out that happened last week Thursday, adding that security officers were deployed to restore peace to the area.
Kunle Poly and Tafa Sego who are currently in police custody have been transferred to Zone II, Onikan, Lagos for further investigation.
“The latest clash which occurred last week Thursday reportedly led to the death of a victim while commercial activities were paralyzed in the area for some time until a joint team of police officers were deployed immediately to the area to restore peace,” the statement reads.
Giving an update to Peoples Gazette on Monday, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said he is aware that Kunle Poly was arrested by the police.
“I am aware that Kunle poly has been arrested. I am not aware of the arrest of the other person. Give me time and I will confirm to you,” he said.
The Gazette had earlier reported that two persons were killed during the clash between two factional members of the NURTW at Idumota area of Lagos.
Footage circulated online shows the suspected hoodlums wielding machetes and local guns while moving along a street in the community.
On Friday, Mr Ajisebutu said police officers were deployed to the area to restore peace and ensure the return of commercial activities.
