Intelligence report links Northwest governor to banditry: APC Spokesman Nabena

The ruling APC has levelled a strong allegation against an unnamed governor in the Northwestern region, claiming an intelligence report has established a link between the governor and growing insecurity including banditry, abductions and other violent crimes in the zone.
The party’s spokesman, Yekini Nabena, made the accusation Thursday night in Abuja, tagging it ‘politically motivated’ and charging security agencies to investigate the governor.
“Our security agencies have intelligence reports linking one of the Northwest governors of colluding with bandits to sponsor violent and criminal activities in the zone.
“I won’t give details because of the sensitive and security nature of the issue.
“However, relevant security agencies must as a matter of urgency investigate the report and determine its veracity, human lives is not what we should play political chess games with.
“We must shun enemies of the country, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who seek political gains from issues of insecurity,” he said.
Mr. Nabena, in his statement accused the opposition PDP of being implicit in the plot.
The PDP has two governors in the Northwest zone- Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto and Bello Mohammed of Zamfara, a state that has become the hotbed of bandits activities owing to its vast forests which provides abode for the criminals.
Though Mr. Nabena did not reveal how he or his party got access to such sensitive security report, the allegation may throw spanner in the work for a government needing support of all local authorities to defeat terrorism and violence.
Mr. Nabena stressed that security agencies must also be alerted to plots to further destabilise the Northwest sub region.
The PDP had earlier staged a protest in Abuja, calling for the ousting of president Muhammadu Buhari over rising insecurity, particularly the abduction of over 3000 students of Government Science Secondary School Kankara in Katsina State.
Mr. Nabena, however cautioned PDP against politicising the issue.
