A 20-year-old student, Yakubu Muhammed, was on Tuesday docked in an Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, for allegedly threatening to kill his neighbours.

The police charged Mr Muhammed, who resides in Giri Kposere village, Gwagwalada with criminal trespass, intimidation and assault.

Prosecution counsel, Abdullahi Tanko, told the court that Victoria Adegbola, who lives in Giri Gauta village, Gwagwalada, reported the matter to the police on Monday.

Mr Tanko said the defendant criminally trespassed into the complainant’s father’s compound and assaulted both father and daughter, and threatened to kill them.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 342, 397 and 264 of the Penal Code. But, the defendant pleaded not guilty.

Defence Counsel, Hussein Isah, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms, citing sections 158 and 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).

He said the defendant if granted bail, would always be in court until the determination of the matter.

The Judge, Sani Umar, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety in like sum.

He said the defendant would be remanded in Nigerian Correctional Centre in Suleja, if he fails to meet the bail conditions.

The case was adjourned until May 18 for hearing.
