The Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB) has inaugurated the distribution of the 2024 Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) intervention of learning materials for pupils in public schools across the state.

Speaking at the distribution in Yola on Tuesday, the executive chairman of ADSUBEB, Murtala Babayi, said that the intervention was to strengthen the delivery of basic education in the state and country at large.

He said the intervention package covers the statewide distribution of 36,600 English Language and Mathematics textbooks for primary one to three and 9,999 English Language and Mathematics textbooks for nursery one to three.

He said that other materials include 20 talking computers, 20 interactive whiteboards, and five Boxer motorcycles, donated by Zenith Bank.

He said the aim was to strengthen monitoring, supervision, and service delivery across public schools in the state.

He stated, “The initiative is aimed at improving teaching and learning outcomes, boosting early literacy and numeracy, enhancing digital learning, and supporting effective monitoring of UBE programmes across Adamawa.”

Mr Babayi assured that the materials would be equitably distributed to schools across the state to address learning gaps, improve classroom delivery, and support teachers in meeting modern educational standards.

He appreciated UBEC and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s continued support, guidance, and commitment to education through the timely payment of counterpart funding that enables the state to access UBEC interventions.

In his address, the Permanent Member I, ADSUBEB, Adiel Kurdah, described the occasion as a significant step toward consolidating gains recorded in the education sector.

He said that the timely provision and distribution of instructional materials remained critical to achieving quality learning outcomes at the basic education level.

The Secretary of the House Committee on Education, Adamawa State House of Assembly, Baba Sani, reiterated the legislature’s commitment to effective oversight and sustained funding of the education sector.

ALGON Chairman and Education Secretary of Girei Local Government, Mohammed Tela, emphasised the critical role of local governments in ensuring that the distributed materials reached their intended beneficiaries at the grassroots level.

He also assured the judicious distribution of the textbooks, ICT tools, and logistics to public schools across Adamawa State.
