Solomon Yola, head coach of the Kano Pillars handball team, says preparations have started for a yet-to-be-given date for the African handball championship.

The team recently won the 2021 Prudent Energy handball premier league, where they hauled 29 points from 11 games that saw them win nine and lose two games.

“The date for the championship has not been fixed, but, as a team, we will continue to work hard to represent the country at the African Championship.

“We are waiting for the Federation to tell us about the Africa Championship. We will start preparation immediately for the championship,” Mr Yola told journalists on Wednesday in Abuja after his team lifted the league trophy.

According to the head coach, the team “came very well prepared for this year’s league and our target was to lift the trophy and God answered our prayers.”

Optimistic of his team’s chances at the African championship, Mr Yola said, “We will work hard to make sure we give a good representation for the country.”

A total of 21 teams, 10 female and 11 male, participated in the 14-day league, which ran from October 23 to November 3 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
