The African Green Economy and Sustainability Institute has congratulated Comfort Adebisi Owolabi on her successful completion of a PhD in Biology with a specialisation in Environmental Science from the University of Abuja.

Ms Owolabi is a member of AGESI.

A statement by AGESI on Sunday noted that Ms Owolabi’s academic journey symbolises resilience, scholarly excellence, and a lifelong commitment to environmental sustainability and governance.

The institute stated that her career, spanning over four decades, has seen her profoundly shape environmental policy, climate change initiatives, and sustainable development frameworks within Nigeria and across Africa.

Beginning her professional pursuit in the Environmental Planning and Protection Division, Ms Owolabi has been at the forefront of Nigeria’s environmental conservation efforts. She played a pivotal role in the development and implementation of Nigeria’s Climate Change Policy Response Strategy, a key document that underpins the country’s national responses to global environmental challenges.

AGESI mentioned that her work reflects a deep understanding of ecological systems and a strategic approach to balancing development with environmental stewardship.

Her doctoral research on ecological studies and water quality, according to AGESI, demonstrates her continued dedication to advancing scientific knowledge that directly informs policy and practical interventions for the protection of natural resources.

This research, it said, added substantial academic value while addressing critical concerns around water sustainability and environmental health, a pressing issue in many parts of Nigeria and Africa.

Beyond her research, Ms Owolabi’s influence extends through her mentorship, educational outreach, and active engagement in environmental negotiations at national and continental levels. She has served as a beacon of knowledge, inspiring generations of environmental scientists, policymakers, and advocates.

Ms Owolabi is a fellow of the Rockefeller Leadership for Environment and Development (FLEAD) and a member of the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), further attesting to her recognised leadership and professionalism within the environmental sector.

AGESI lauded Ms Owolabi’s contribution, highlighting that such achievements uplift the institute’s profile and fuel the collective progress of Africa toward sustainable futures.

The institute also commended Ms Owolabi’s dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.

“We salute you, Dr Owolabi, for your lifelong dedication and this crowning academic achievement. Your brilliance uplifts our institute, our continent, and our shared future. Congratulations once again—from all of us at the African Green Economy and Sustainability institute,” said the statement.
