Akeredolu writes Ondo Assembly, resumes office after medical trip abroad

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has officially written the state’s House of Assembly, stating his resumption from medical vacation.
Olamide Oladiji, assembly speaker, confirmed this in a statement on Friday evening, saying the governor’s letter was in line with section 190 (1)of the Nigerian constitution.
“According to the letter which was received today during the parliamentary meeting of the house, the governor resumed duty today, Friday, 8th September 2023,” Mr Oladiji said.
Mr Oladiji expressed appreciation to God for bringing the governor back home hale and hearty. He noted that the entire state’s people were glad to see the governor back in office.
On June 7, Mr Akeredolu announced that he was embarking on a 21-day medical trip in Germany to attend to his fragile health.
He was expected to return on July 6, 2023, but his prolonged stay abroad caused heavy controversy and political bickering, especially among members of the cabinet who are eyeing the seat of power in the state.
On July 15, the governor immediately announced that his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, should take over the affairs of the state in an acting capacity pending his resumption.
