Akwa Ibom correctional service gets new controller

Theophilus Okoka has assumed duty as the controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Akwa Ibom command.
The command’s spokesperson, Richard Metong, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Mr Metong said Mr Okoka took over from Frank Okonkwo, who bowed out of active service upon attaining statutory retirement after 35 years of meritorious service.
“The formal handing-over ceremony took place at the command’s headquarters, Uyo, marking a seamless transition of leadership within the command.
“In his brief remarks, the outgoing controller, CC Frank Okonkwo, expressed gratitude to God, the federal government, the service leadership, officers, and men of the command for the cooperation and support he received throughout his tenure,” Mr Metong said.
Mr Metong said Mr Okonkwo charged the personnel to extend the same level of loyalty and professionalism to his successor for the continued progress of the command.
He said the new controller pledged to sustain the gains recorded by his predecessor while strengthening security, staff welfare, and inmate reformation in line with the core mandates of NCoS.
Mr Metong said Mr Okoka called for the cooperation of officers, stakeholders, and the general public to achieve effective custodial management and successful non-custodial operations across the state.
