Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has inaugurated the 10.4 km Uyo–Ukpom Abak Road as part of his administration’s effort to link the state’s rural communities to the state capital.

Mr Eno, during the inauguration on Thursday, said the construction of the road was in fulfilment of his campaign promise to complete the uncompleted projects of his predecessors.

“This project was initiated by the administration of my political father, Mr Udom Emmanuel, and we had promised to complete it. Today, we are here in fulfilment of that promise because governance is a continuum.

“This road project would not have been possible without the support of President Bola Tinubu, who made sure that funds were released to our state for completion of projects,” Mr Eno said.

The governor reaffirmed the state’s full support for Mr. Tinubu’s administration in ensuring the president is voted back to power in 2027 for a second term.

He commended the management of Amitec Construction Company and the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Eno Ibanga, for taking on the challenge of restoring the road to a desirable standard.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the chairman of Uyo Local Government, Uwemedimo Udo, thanked the governor for fulfilling his campaign promise to the people.

Mr Udo said the road project had been left in a deplorable state for a long time, adding that the road served as a major diversion route during the construction of the Abak Road flyover.

In his remarks, the member representing Abak Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Clement Jimbo, lauded the governor for his foresight and vision for completing the road project for the people.
