Akwa Ibom: NEMA distributes relief materials to flood, windstorm victims

The National Emergency Management Agency has distributed relief materials to victims of the 2025 flooding and windstorm in the Eket federal constituency of Akwa Ibom.
NEMA distributed rice, garri, spaghetti, vegetable oil, tomatoes, seasoners, and salt, etc.
Speaking at the event in Ibeno on Wednesday, Mmandu Aisueni, the head of NEMA operations in Akwa Ibom, said that the gesture was the federal government’s way of supporting the victims.
The NEMA official urged the beneficiaries to accept the items and use them to improve their welfare.
“It is with mixed emotions that we gather here today; we are saddened by the devastating impacts of the recent flooding and windstorm.
“The effects of the disasters have been deeply felt in these communities. Property and sources of livelihoods have been destroyed.
“Today, we are distributing these items not just as a gesture of support, but as a demonstration of our shared humanity and commitment,” the NEMA representative explained.
The NEMA official said that proactive measures were critical to avoiding similar occurrences in the future.
Okpolupm Etteh, the member representing Eket federal constituency, said that the essence of the relief material was to support the affected families.
Mr Etteh thanked the federal government for the intervention, describing it as well-intended.
Owoidighe Mfonobong, a beneficiary, said, “We are happy that we were remembered by the government; these items mean a lot to us. We are very grateful.”
