Akwa Ibom police detain two for alleged murder

The Akwa Ibom police command says it has arrested two suspects in connection with a murder case in the state.
The command’s spokesman, Timfon John, said in a statement in Uyo that the breakthrough was based on credible intelligence from members of the public.
Ms John said that operatives of the command on Saturday stormed a location where a victim was burnt beyond recognition inside a room.
She said the incident occurred in Iko Udo Obobo Village, Ukanafun Local Government Area.
“Through sustained intelligence-led operations and meticulous investigative efforts, two suspects have been apprehended in connection with this heinous crime.
“The suspects are currently in custody and are providing useful information to aid the ongoing investigations,” Ms John said.
She said that the commissioner of police, Baba Azare, had ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
The police image maker further said that the command would ensure that all persons involved in the barbaric act were identified and brought to justice.
Ms John described the matter as a clear case of culpable homicide, saying that it would be pursued with the full weight of the law.
She said that the command remained resolute in its commitment to protect the lives and property of the Akwa Ibom people.
“The command will continue to act decisively against all forms of criminality. The state can’t be a safe place for criminals,” she said.
The police official urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhood to the nearest police station.
