Akwa Ibom police rescue kidnapped victim, recover stolen vehicle

The police command in Akwa Ibom said it had rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered his stolen vehicle during a tactical operation in the Ikot Ekpene area of the state.
The police public relations officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement in Uyo on Saturday.
Ms John said on Feb. 13, the command received information that a man was kidnapped along Okop Eto Road and taken to an unknown destination by the kidnappers.
“Based on credible intelligence, operatives of the command immediately swung into action and engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel.
“The hoodlums, overwhelmed by superior firepower, fled with severe gunshot injuries, leaving the victim unharmed.
“The victim was rescued unhurt, his vehicle recovered and he has since been reunited with his family,” she said.
The command spokesperson said the item recovered during the operation was one Lexus RX 350 SUV, ash in colour.
She said efforts are in top gear to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Ms John said that investigations are ongoing to recover weapons used in the crime and bring those responsible to justice.
She said the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom command, Baba Azare, has commended the officers for their swift response.
She said Mr Azare assured residents that the command remains resolute in its fight against criminal elements in the state.
Ms John urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station for prompt action.
