All Angara Airlines passengers killed in Russian plane crash

All 48 passengers and crew members have been declared dead after a commercial plane crashed in poor weather conditions in a remote area in far east Russia on Thursday.
According to the Russian Ministry of Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief, the An-24 plane, operated by Siberia-based Angara Airlines, was approaching its destination when it disappeared from radar.
The plane was destined for Tynda, a Russian town in the Amur region bordering China, after initially departing from Khabarovsk with a brief stopover in Blagoveshchensk, another border town with China.
“An Mi-8 helicopter operated by Rosaviatsiya (Russia’s civil aviation authority) has spotted the burning fuselage of the aircraft,” the ministry said on Telegram.
Images of the reported crash site, circulated by Russian state media, show debris scattered among a dense forest, surrounded by plumes of smoke.
One Chinese national was among the victims of the crash, according to China’s state-run news agency Xinhua.
Russian state-owned TASS news agency reported that an error by the plane’s crew while landing in poor weather conditions was one of the reasons for the crash.
