The anti-war German movie ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ won big at the 76th edition of the British Academy Film Awards (Baftas) at the Royal Festival Hall in the United Kingdom.

The movie was based on a 1929 novel by Erich Maria Remarque depicting the life of a young German soldier, Paul Bäumer, who enlisted into the German army with his friends to become heroes but would soon be faced with the reality of war.

The movie dominated the awards, clinching seven categories out of 14 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Not in the English Language and Best Director for Edward Berger.

It also scooped the Best Cinematography category, the Original Score category and Best Film.

The seven awards made the movie the highest BAFTA-scoring foreign language film.

Tied on second place in the total winner’s tally of the night were ‘Elvis’ – a biographical drama about the life of late American rock and roll singer and actor Elvis Presley, and “Banshees of Inisherin,” a movie about two lifelong friends who found their friendship at a dead end at the detriment of each other.

Both films won four categories, with Austin Butler taking home the Best Leading Actor Award for his portrayal of Elvis, while Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan won Supporting Actor Awards for their roles in ‘Banshees Of Inisherin’.
