Alleged fake PFIPC DG Adeyemi denies forgery, impersonation charges in court

The judge fixed October 12 and 13 for the hearing of the bail application and trial.

The embattled Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, has pleaded not guilty to an eight-count charge of forgery and impersonation, filed against him by the Nigeria Police Force.

Mr Adeyemi made the plea on Wednesday, during his arraignment before Justice Umar Mohammed, of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division.

The charge, titled FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025, listed Adeyemi, “Femi Surname Unknown,” and “Anu Surname Unknown,” as the first, second and third defendants respectively.

One of the counts read, “That you Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Mathew ‘M’ 38 years of 2 Floor, Federal Secretariat Complex Abuja, Femi surname unknown and Anu surname unknown now at large, on or about 8th day of March, 2024 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court forged appointment letter purported to have been appointed by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, President Federal Republic of Nigeria and signed by Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 1(2) (c) of Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap M 17 Law of the Federation of Nigeria.”

After the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges, the Director of Public Prosecution, Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, who had prior to the arraignment, told the court that he had been instructed to take over the case, urged the court to fix a trial date for the hearing.

Mr Adeniyi’s counsel, Genesis Francis, informed the court of his client’s bail application, citing grounds of ill health.

The judge, after noting the application by the defendant’s counsel, and the counter-application by the Federal Government, fixed October 12 and 13 for the hearing of the bail application and trial.

He also ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the determination of the bail application.

Listed as witnesses by the prosecution are Mr Gbajabiamila; officials from the OAGF, police officers and civil servants, among others.
