Western officials will gather on Tuesday in The Hague to discuss efforts to prosecute alleged Russian war crimes committed by its forces during its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Ukraine, its allies and the European Commission want to ensure that suspected war criminals are brought to justice.

The question of how Russia can be prosecuted for the crime of aggression would also be advanced.

A special tribunal may be set up for this purpose.

The first claims for compensation from victims were also to be registered at the conference.

The Netherlands would host the conference.

Representatives from the European Commission, Ukraine, and Western allies, the International Criminal Court and the European judicial authority Eurojust, would participate.

Shortly after the start of the war, several countries agreed to cooperate with Ukraine and international judicial authorities in the investigations.

In addition to the Ukrainian judiciary, the International Criminal Court based in The Hague is also investigating.

Chief prosecutor Karim Khan has already issued four international arrest warrants against high-ranking Russians for alleged war crimes, including President Vladimir Putin.
