The federal government has assured that Americans and U.S. facilities in Nigeria are safe as Iran ratchets up its retaliatory attacks against Israel and America.

Pro-Iranian protesters have attempted to breach the U.S. consulates in Pakistan and Iraq since the conflict started on Saturday, prompting security guards at the facility in Pakistan to open fire on the demonstrators, killing at least 10 of them.

The spokesperson for the foreign affairs ministry, Kimiebi Ebienfa, told Peoples Gazette that there had been no reports of any threats from American officials.

“The United States Embassy has not complained about any threat to their facility, and you know that Abuja is safe,” Mr Ebienfa told The Gazette. “There is no threat to Americans, the embassy or whatsoever.”

Meanwhile, the U.S. government, in a ‘Worldwide Caution’ security alert published on Saturday, warned its citizens in Nigeria and other countries around the world to remain extra vigilant. 

“Following the launch of U.S. combat operations in Iran, Americans worldwide and especially in the Middle East should follow the guidance in the latest security alerts issued by the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.  

“They may experience travel disruptions due to periodic airspace closures.  The Department of State advises Americans worldwide to exercise increased caution,” the security advisory said.
