ANA elects new executives in Enugu

On Thursday, the Enugu branch of the Association of Nigeria Authors elected a new executive, Adaobi Nwoye, as the chairman.
Mr Nwoye, who is the head of the department for continuing education at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, scored 11 votes to defeat her opponent, Sarah Akpu, who scored one vote in the election held in Enugu.
Other executive members elected include Louis Ezema of Ebonyi State University as the vice chairperson and Chinyere Amajioyi, who emerged as the secretary.
Ms Akpu was elected as the financial secretary, Conrad Anidiobi as the treasurer, and Ejike Okpe as the director of information.
Performing the swearing-in ceremony, Justice George Nnamani of the Enugu High Court urged the new executive to carry out their duties in line with the rules and regulations of the association.
While congratulating the executives, Mr Nnamani, who is also a member, urged them to intensify the promotion of reading culture in institutions and among the youths.
In her acceptance speech, the new chairperson, who has authored over 10 books and many journals, promised to work together as a team to take ANA to a higher level.
Ms Nwoye commended the past executives for their commitment and dedication and promised to consolidate their achievements.
She thanked the electoral committee headed by Greg Mbajiorgu of the Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Nigeria Nsukka and members of the association for finding her worthy to serve.
Ms Nwoye took over from Zulu Ofoelue, who completed his two tenures of six years.
